30.11 Timezones and sunrises

When I lived in San Francisco, I felt that somehow it was in the wrong timezone. It appeared that throughout the year, the sun would rise much earlier than in Amsterdam, and would always set much earlier. So I thought you’d get more out of your day if you got up earlier, or if the timezone would change.
To see what would be an ideal timezone, I tweaked my sunrise app to be able to add some time to the sunrise/sunset hours. Thus I found that for me – moving SF a full timezone (one hour) would give more useful daylight.
I mean: Look at how much later it would be light in summer!

Sunrise Compare SF AMS

I do understand that this would mean that it would be a timezone away from other areas, that it would get cold, because of the fog, at 3pm instead of 4pm. and lots of other things.
